Administrators in Engage can manage how purchases are made within the library, ensuring users follow the institution’s purchasing policies.
Purchasing Types Available
There are two purchasing options available:
- Institution Purchasing – Administrators purchase books using Engage account balance.
- Patron Purchasing – Individual patrons buy books using their Engage account balance.
⚠️ If Patron Purchasing is enabled but no account balance is loaded, users can only access titles the institution already owns. Unavailable titles will generate a library book request for review under the Finance Requests section in Engage.
Setting your preferred purchasing type
To configure purchasing options for your library:
- Open Engage Settings: Go to Engage Settings.
- Find Purchasing Type: On the General Settings page, locate the Purchasing Type section.
- Select a Purchasing Method: Choose between Institution Purchasing or Patron Purchasing based on your preference.
- Apply Changes: Save your selection.
Your changes will be applied instantly, and users will follow the new purchasing rules immediately.
